The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is among the most ancient Churches in the world, preserving the Apostolic faith received from the earliest centuries of Christianity.

Following the descent of the Holy spirit at Pentecost, the Gospel reached Ethiopia through the preaching of the Holy Apostle Philip and the baptism of the Ethiopian Enuch around 34 A.D (Acts 8:26 -39). Returning to his homeland bearing the light of Christ, he marked the beginning of Christianity in Ethiopia- making Ethiopia one of the earliest nations to receive the Gospel in the apostolic age.
